India will take on Syria in their third match of the AFC Asian Cup 2023 on January 23, 2024. The Blue Tigers suffered two consecutive defeats to both Australia and Uzbekistan, leaving them at the bottom of the table with a peak to climb.
India’s qualification chances for the AFC Asian Cup 2023 round of 16 are hanging by a thread. Despite tough competition, India still has a visible path to qualification. In their opening match of the AFC Asian Cup 2023, India faced a thrilling 2-0 defeat against the Socceroos and suffered a 3-0 loss to Uzbekistan in their second game.
A total of 24 teams are participating in this continental event; the top two teams from each group and the four best third-placed teams will see themselves through to the round of 16.
If India wants to finally break the group stage curse, victory against Syria is a must, and that must be by a big margin, to climb a rank in Group B. However, India can only qualify if two matches result in their favour.
Out of six teams fighting for the best third-place finish, China ultimately ended their AFC Asian Cup 2023 campaign. One nation will have to pack bags from the remaining five teams fighting for a spot in the last 16. If India wants to avoid exiting the tournament, they have to win Syria and hope one of Oman and Palestine draws its final group game to qualify.
India will take on Syria at 5:00 PM (Indian Standard Time) in the final matchday of the AFC Asian Cup 2023, hoping to clear the line as wanted at the Al Bayt Stadium.
