Leo Messi wins the best FIFA men’s award over Manchester City’s Erling Haaland. Haaland and the Argentine skipper tied on points, but it was said to be for Messi as he was the player to grab the most votes by international captain.
The awards were given based on votes made by the national team captains, the media, and fans on FIFA’s official website. FIFA also published the list of players who voted for whom, clearing concerns between different fan bases around the globe.

How did Messi win the Best FIFA Men’s Award in 2024?
Lionel Messi has become the first footballer to win the Best FIFA Men’s Player Award for the third time. Messi was awarded as the winner, although the Argentine could not attend the ceremony held in London on January 15, 2024.
Messi was perhaps an unlikely winner, given that the voting period did not count the 2022 FIFA World Cup won by the Argentine captain. For the second consecutive year, the men’s best player award was won by Messi.
its notable that many voters were still influenced by Messi’s heroic performance in Qatar 2022, where he produced seven goals and three assists in Argentina’s victorious campaign
The 36-year-old scored nine goals for PSG in 21 games before moving to Inter Miami in July 2023. Messi then helped his team win their first trophy, netting 11 times and providing 5 assists in his first 14 games.
Messi has also scored five goals in three games for Argentina, which he played from December 19 to August 20.
